Apologies for the outage yesterday! Our webhost had some issues with a kernel upgrade, fixed it and now we’re back!

Any web developers?

Anyone interested in a volunteer web development project?

Should be pretty straight forward if you have java and/or flash skills.

Quick Note – Vacation

This Fridays live show (June 19th) will be the last one for two weeks. In fact, the regular programming will be all Old Time Radio for the same time window.

We’re going to take some vacation time to rebuild the studio, make some changes to the website, programming lineup and schedule as well as just enjoy some much needed free time (you know, camping, fishing, gardening and etc.).

As part of this the podcast will be returning as has been requested by listeners, so if you miss the Friday night show you can catch it on podcast.

So to recap:

June 20th – July 3d 2009

SaGR vacation days.
Studio rebuild.
Website rebuild.
Programming changes (lineup and times).

America’s Debate Radio

Everyone is welcome to join us at the America’s Debate Chatroom tonight for the debates (9pm est). I know it’s not getting your fix for your SaGR jones, but it’ll be fun. I promise. :)

Updates & More

A few updates from SaGR Studios:

  • A/C System: As of this morning we are still without cooling in the “Stop and Go Radio World Headquarters” as Mike from AD Radio calls it. Good news is it’s supposed to be cool today so that will help. We have someone coming in a few minutes to do the box measurements for the new evaporator coil. Turns out a majority of the system was bad having failed a few years back and never used. The entire cooling circuit had been opened to the environment!
  • New music shows: Having a few issues with one of the new shows that we’ll be resolving soon. It’s a simple matter of file naming conventions that the automation software doesn’t like so I’m working out a way around it.
  • Derry Brownfield Show: Shows are coming up fine after the transition to their temporary studios. Audio quality is also improving. Had some complaints on Monday following that show that it sounded like shortwave radio, I suspect that it was indeed recorded from shortwave!
  • SaGR Funding: We are now officially running on empty in the donated funds department. The last bit remaining was used to pay our 6 month hosting fees for the website leaving a shortfall of $26.91 that I covered. We’ll be doing some sort of a fund raiser soon. We had the idea for a raffle but PayPal doesn’t support “Games of Chance” so we couldn’t collect the funds that way. Donations are always  welcomed :) .

Listener email:

  • “George” wrote asking about software used and asked if we used Linux or Windows since a tech show we air was talking about Linux and it made him wonder what we used. We do use Linux here George though our primary software for the station is currently Windows based. Our website I know for sure is on Linux and I believe our streams through LC are as well. — That said we are in the process of converting some of our computing equipment to Linux (Ubuntu specifically). Over time we will switch completely but this may take 6 months to a year while we wait for some of the radio automation software to mature.

We will do our best to be on air live tonight so just stay tuned and watch for a post later today with the determination.
