Supplies for Sandbags Available At Riverview Court

The city is making sand and sand bags available to residents in anticipation of the river rising significantly over the next several hours. Residents in need of sandbags can now go to Riverview Court, located off of Hillside Road just east of the river, to fill and take sand bags.

“Cities north of Naperville received significant amounts of rain this morning,” according to City Engineer Bill Novack. “DuPage County has activated the Fawell Dam to assist with the high flows on the West Branch of the DuPage River. In accordance with the protocol for the operation of the dam, the gates will open to allow more flow downstream as the upstream levels rise. Even though it is not raining in Naperville and the river has been at the same level for a long period, expect it to rise if/when the gates are further opened.”

Throughout the day, should people encounter standing water on streets at any location, they should not drive through the area. For their safety, residents are also advised to stay away from overflowing retention areas and fast-moving water of the DuPage River.
